I bought a very nice 2000 convertible. A/C was not cold. Had it charged and added dye. Was ice cold for a couple weeks. Sure enough, compressor leaking. I bought and replaced: compressor, dryer, screen, water pump and belts. Did the work myself from reading I did on this great site. Now she is ice cold again. Here is where I need help:
A/C is cold, I turn the passenger side control to hot and NOTHING changes.
I turn drivers side to hot and it gets hot on both sides.
Turn drivers side back to cold and not very cold. ( like something sticking )
Kill the car and restart, she back ice cold.
No codes at this time, but did have drivers side HVAC in history at one time.
So, is my controller in dash not working or do I have HVAC door/motor problems?
some people have issues with the blend door motors. I had an issue with mine a few years ago and was able to index the gear inside the motor to get it working again.
per owners manual, not sure if this relates to you ???
Driver Set Temperature ****
The DRIVER **** changes the temperature on the
driver’s and passenger’s side of the vehicle. Turn the
**** clockwise to increase the temperature and
counterclockwise to decrease the temperature.
Whenever you turn this ****, the temperature will be
displayed for approximately five seconds along with the
current fan speed and air delivery mode.
When adjusting the temperature, start with a driver-set
temperature of 73F (23C) until you determine your
comfort zone. If you choose 60F (16C), the
system will remain at maximum cooling and will not
automatically adjust fan speed or air delivery. If you
choose 90F (32C), the system will remain at
maximum heating and will not automatically adjust fan
speed or air delivery. Choosing either maximum setting
will not cause the system to heat or cool any faster.
Turning the **** past either maximum setting has no
effect on the operation of the system.
Passenger Temperature Offset
The PASSENGER **** changes the temperature on the
passenger’s side of the vehicle. When the **** is in
the 12 o’clock position, the passenger’s temperature is
the same as the driver’s. Turn the **** clockwise for
warmer air on the passenger’s side, counterclockwise
for cooler air. If the driver-set temperature is set at 60F
(16C) or 90F (32C), turning the passenger ****
has no effect because the system is locked at a
maximum setting.
I did read through it once, but obviously need to put in bathroom. Still learning and love the net. Thanks again. Anyone in east Texas needs help with AC, I'm an expert now. Lol
