The car is only lowered as far as the bolts allow, which is probably around the 3/4 inch mark I would guess. I went to a few places for allignment. Tire Kingdom wouldn't even attempt it. We tried another place and I myself drove it slowly until the tech told it wasn't going to make it.
But there's another catch. I have G-FORCE KD's (295 rear, 255 Front). They only have 800 miles on them but the car has really been pulling right lately. Air pressure is fine so its most likely atributed to allignment, which I need anyway cause it lowered, or radial pull which statistially is rare.
So I called BFG Consumer affairs. The guy tells me to get it alligned first and
if it still pulls, to have the tech call him and BFG will "work with me" on it.
Problem is he did mention to take it to "An Authorized BFG Tire store" (Which is why I first went to Tire Kingdom.)
I know there are places with low profile racks, pits etc but I want to try, if
its possible, to go to a place that sells BFG Tires like the BFG Consumer rep
stated. TIRES Plus, who is BFG Authorized, is close by and claims that
they can get it up on their rack. I'm actually scared to try at this point.
Re: Lowered Car - Where to go for allignment??? (MarkFLC5)
I found a shop that has a pit rather than the normal lift. However, the alignment equip he has is low tech. But, he is a pro road racer and knows how to do an accurate allignment with what he has.
Re: Lowered Car - Where to go for allignment??? (MarkFLC5)
My local chevy dealer is a great guy and a dedicated sponsor of our local corvette club, but his service manager wouldn't even get off his chair to look and see if my car would fit on their alignment rack. I looked at the rack myself and could tell it wouldn't fit anyway. I stopped at at local tire store that does alot of performance work and they were very cooperative and helpful and getting the car up on their rack and having to do a little extra work to get the car aligned. Ask fellow corvette owners or hot rod owners where to take your car, you'll have a place to start. It may just boil down to who has a "friendly" rack, without a steep ramp. Good luck.
Re: Lowered Car - Where to go for allignment??? (16Again)
Mark,
I always have my dealer do mine. Along with having my car lowered to the max with the stock bolts, I have body color stone guards front and rear. Front guards are only about 1 to 1 1/2 inch off the ground. The dealer always puts a note on the ticket that the car has been lowered and is very very low. The tech then goes through the process of laying down 2x6's to get the car on the ramp. They also let me in the shop area if I have any concerns. But then again I think I have a dealer that goes above and beyond for me and my car. Just ask them.
Re: Lowered Car - Where to go for allignment??? (abraham)
bring some 2x4's and use them to "step up" onto the rack.
Thats a good idea. I'll talk with the manager at the local store WHO SAID that he might be able to get it up on the rack, or atleast was willing to try. Perhaps the 2x4's or 2x6's will serve as added security. This local shop would be my first try because they are an authorized BFG Seller (Remember, thats somewhat of an issue that I may need for compensatory leverage should one of the tires be causing the pull).
Bob and MeanGreen; I don't think Street Rods sells BFG's or tires for that matter. But If the above idea doesn't work, I'll get the allignment done there. They are only 2 mins away from my work.
THRAP 42 - You definitely have one cooperatrive dealer. I checked with 2 local dealers to see if they had a pit or low profile rack and one of them instead is telling me to raise it back up because it messes with the engineering of the car.
Thanks everyone for all your advice cause I definitely must get this done soon. I just never realized that 3/4" would cause so many problems. But I don't regret lowering one bit - it looks so much better (Thanks again Bob.)

In the Tampa area: Goodyear dealer in Palm Harbor (on Alt 19) has a young guy who does alignments to stock specs or any specs you provide. AND they take real good care of your car!
