I had a similar problem with mine and I removed the console and cleaned with rubbing alcohol.
I them repainted with black Duplicolor fabric paint. I then clear coated the console with low luster clear from Mid-America Motorworks.
I also repainted the radio bezel at the same time. I think it was a good match to the original and looks much better than it did.
