2004 A4 Shift interlock Problem
C5 Tech --
I'm having an "issue" with my 2004 A4 garage queen with 18,300 pampered miles on her, let me give you the background.
1. The Shift cable let loose on the tranny side -- fixed this with a new nylon bushing.
2. Shortly after (like a week! what luck!) the bushing failed on the shifter inside the car. So I pulled the console and replaced the bushing with a new one.
3. Now the car shifts BUT it shifts without the key! Yes, without the key in I can run through P,R,N,D,3,2,1 -- ???? So something happened to the Brake Shift Interlock but the only thing I disconnected was the little 2 prong wire harness right next to the shift interlock cable....
Any ideas here? Thanks in advance.: thumbs:

It's not really an important issue. Cars haven't always had the interlock feature and you'll be fine without it. Most drivers will instinctively put a foot on the brake pedal before shifting out of park. I wouldn't give it a second thought, especially if you're the only driver.

More than one person has told me not to give it a second thought...
.....but if it were an easy fix I'd go ahead and do it. Is this cable that fragile?? Is it easy to change out?
