The driver seat can not be moved. Its weird though. The seat will move for maybe 1 second, then stop. The code I have is B0856 H C (unclearable). I have done extensive searching and have not found a solution. Here are the symptoms:
Put key in ignition(memory seats) and nothing responds, except the mirrors when i push memory 1 or 2. The telescope wheel will not work anymore at all. The other driver seat controls WILL work. All but forward -back and up-down seat control. When the key is inserted, the light just blinks above the memory number on the arm rest.
What I have done so far: I removed the driver seat contral pad/gem module and switched it with the passenger side(that side works). No difference. The power seat motor does work. All fuses look good etc. Oh, and I have cursed a ton and stayed up till' 4:30AM trying to solve this while leaving the wifey with the newborn. Not good. :boxing
Is the problem in the power seat memory module? If so, I'm now out of warranty. Can I just disconnect the memory module and restore power to my seat and telecope wheel? Where the heck is this module thingy that is causing me grief?
If anyone fells any sympathy please reply with your best solution...Thank you
Well, I took a look at the manual, and all I can say is good luck, and here's a scan of the page from the manual for the '99 for this code and the power seat check it references. http://www.glue.umd.edu/~dhazelwo/images/scan.pdf
Re: Power seat failure----please help! (TenaciousD)
Great!... that's a start. Anyone know where the Memory Seat Module is? Maybe i can disconnect it an dsee what happens. I'm guessing its under the drivers seat or in the drivers' door panel. But I really have no clue
This is why I have bought a 60 month 75-100,000 mile warranty on my two C5s. This is a typical unsolicited fatherly comment that will be of no help in your current situation. :nopity
I don't see mention of a memory seat module, but there is a LH Seat Control Module (SCM), which it states is under the front of the LH seat. Should be a two-row 26-pin connector. Not sure if that helps at all :)
It sounds like the position sensor is disconnected from the seat controller.
The one second movement is a limp home mode, when the sensor is disconnected or broken. The blinking memory set lamp could indicate that a connector is unplugged from the seat controller. The front vertical motor sensor supply and ground lines are also used by the sensor in the steering column. The manual indicates that the seat controller is located under the driver's seat on the left side. I would guess that the problem is with the 26 pin connector, which is plugged into the seat controller. The manual gives the connector a C1 designation. Page 8-1167 of the service manual has a diagnostic procedure for DTC B0856.
Thank you all for your help. Today, a tech-friend of mine hooked up a Tech 2 and check the "out of limit" voltage. It was within spec @ 4.7v He thinks something was disconnected underneath as well. I am going to remove the seat myself and have a looksee. His dealership quoted the SCM @ $279 retail and $179 friend price. Hopefully it is a faulty connection.
Thanks for the help thus far
