I am running 285/30 18X10.5" wheel in the front...no rubbing..I also have used 285/35 size tires with no apparent problems street or track...I am running 335/30 18X11.5 in the rear.
vetterdstr - what size rears are you running w/ your 265/35 fronts? I don't think this size will match very well with the 315/30 rears I'm considering because that would be a front to rear tire height ratio of 99.xx% vs. the stock ratio of about 96%. My understanding is that if you vary too far from 96% you will tend to inadvertently trigger the traction control/ah during hard cornering.
I looked at your mod page and your setup of 285/30 fr with 335/30 rears check out fine in maintaing the front to rear tire height ratio (95.x% vs. 96% stock)
Shinobi, your 285/35 fr with 335/30 rear combo makes for a front to rear tire height ratio of 99%. Did you have any problems w/ traction control/ah during aggressive driving/cornering?
I also checked out Pirelli's specs on the 285 tire size and the allowable rim size is 9.5"-11" so my 9.5" rims should fit the 285s, granted a 10" or 10.5" rim would be more ideal.
Al,
interesting point. I noticed that depending on the brand of tire, the rim width range varies for a 285 size tire. For example, the BFGoodrich g-force and Bridgestone S-02/3's recommend minimum 10" rim for 285 tire. The Pirelli and Michelin brands recommend minimum 9.5" for 285 tire. This supports the notion that the measured width of the tire varies slightly between brands with the g-force and S-02/3's on the top of the list of widest for the same size tire. This is also from the tirerack.
Slammed,
those are some radical tire sizes!
Since moving to these sizes from stock, have you noticed any changes in handling? How about steering precision? Any problems with the front end "hunting" and following cracks/imperfections on the road? Any fear of overdriving the power steering? Now I'm getting paranoid.....
One thing I noticed running the 285/30/18's on the front of the car with 10" CCW's is that the car wants to follow all the cracks and seams in the road. I intentionally reduced the size of the fronts (on my Street setup) to not go through that all over again.
thanx vetterdstr and all - I am concerned about the front end following all the grooves on the road. I think I may very well just go to the mundane setup of 265/35 fr and 295/35 rr :jester
it will "poof" on the wheel some.. but you can run it with no problems.. though i would not reccommend it. I currently run a 265' on a 10 and 325's on 12's .. but to each his own.
