Default Makes no sense...electrical

My 2000 Coupe has always been a car that will have a dead battery after 4-5 days with no use. Being electrically challenged, I have never really dug for a root cause. But, a couple days ago I noticed the glove box light on while driving to work. Yesterday I was washing the car and cleaning the interior. I figured I would adjust the glove box door to assure the light was going out. I had the doors open for maybe 30-40 minutes. After finishing, I went to move the car. Dead. I have driven the car all week and had zero issues starting the car that morning. Thinking back this is not the first time I have had to jump the car after having the doors open for a period of time. I put the car on the charger and it told me it had 12.2 Amps, 57% capacity. Battery is a Red Top, maybe a year old. Thoughts? Ideas? Pull the fuse on the interior light circuit and see if the car still goes dead?

TIA

Ron

I'd start with getting a load test done on the battery. No way your car should have a problem starting after that short a time.
If the battery turns out OK then find BC's load test procedure (well, do this regardless).

So, I had charged the car to 100%. Drove it Tuesday and Wednesday. Had to jump to Wednesday PM. I put the charger on it again last night. Went to start it this morning to take it for a battery check. Click click click. Jumped it and took it to Autozone. Test girl said that it was good, but needed a charge. Told them BS, it was charged to 100% last night. Told her to check the and see if there is a drain on the battery. Normal. So, charged 3 times in the last week and a half, only to be dead within 18 hours. She said let me see if we have one in stock. So, have a new battery again. We will see what happens next.

You could have a problem that is preventing the BCM from going into sleep mode.
Go to page 30, post #590, for info on diagnosing this problem.

In sleep mode the drain should be around 20mA and that wouldn't kill your battery in such a drastic way as you are experiencing.

You never said what happened to the glove compartment light. Is it stuck on, or were you able to fix it?

By the way, the link posted above takes you directly to the right post (590, not 599, obviously just a typo ).

As said before, have the battery load tested....its not holding a charge.
Your parasitic drain must be found if its not the battery.

Still no issues after 10 days with the new battery. Going to run diagnostics over the weekend just to be sure.

FYI--My glove box light was also staying on and draining my battery(but not to the extent of not starting the car--I also replaced it with a new gel type eventually)-- but an easy fix for the light is to take a stick on felt pad -like one that goes on the bottom of a chair to keep from marring the floor, and stick it under the push switch in the glovebox and voila, light goes off.

Sat 9 days without a start, fired right up. Between the new battery and disconnecting the glove box light, problem solved.

Just because a battery is not very old does not mean that it is very good. Batteries have unexpected issues also. As for going to Autozone for any kind of diagnostics, well.....I wouldn't let them check the air pressure in my tires!! Especially if it involves anything electrical, find someone more reliable for diagnosis and never, ever, buy a part from them that a wire hooks to. A battery from them should be ok though.

I agree 100% about Autozone. I needed a battery on Sunday afternoon, they were the only place to have a Redtop in stock. It went dead after a year, they swore it was good. I ended up taking to 2 other places, both confirmed it bad. Finally got the warranty replacement out of them, and 15 months later this one took a dump. Will not get another from them. Or anything else, unless of course I need new car smell air freshener or fake stick on trim.
