Default Fuel Pump Installation Problems

I have a few questions that I'm wondering about. I did find a site that showed changing out the sending unit. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/add...-sending-unit/ and another site that shows how to replace the fuel pump. https://www.lingenfelter.com/pdf/c5f...structions.pdf.
My problem is: On removal of the old unit, I did what was suggested of unhooking the sending unit from the pump body to make it easier to get the pump and sender out of the tank, but found that the short blue wire and gray wire that runs from the sending unit to the plug had torn loose from it's circuit board. I am now concerned that this could happen again when reinstalling the new pump and sending unit. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it

After looking over the float sending arm I realized that it would be easier to just remove the movable arm from the circuit board itself rather than the arm and circuit board together as show in the instructions on one of the sites I mentioned. Not only does it make it safer to do without a chance to breaking any wires from the board, but allows easier access when putting the pump back in with the arm totally detached.

I've removed mine a couple times and like you tore it up the first time. After multiple attempts at trying to repair and then install, I finally got it done and it functions fine. What a PAIN it was. I figured out it was better for me to just leave it alone and when I stuck it back in the fuel tank to slowly and gingerly rotate the entire unit as I inserted it. I hope to NEVER have to do that fuel pump upgrade again.

Good luck and best wishes with your repair.

Well I took yesterday to practice putting in the old pump in without the sending unit arm attached to its base. I found that once you get the pump body thru the hole that left room for the sending unit arm to be inserted and moved around to get it positioned correctly before reconnecting by snapping it back in place to the base. I have no doubt that this is the best way to put it all back in without damaging the wiring. As soon as Autozone's vendor "finally" gets the whole thing here I plan on getting it installed and will pass on any problems or helpful hints I found in doing it. Maybe I can take some photos or video that will make it easier for the next person who wants to take on this project.
Thanks for your reply. It helps to know I'm not the only one to find this can be a problem in getting it out and back in.
