A.P.E. MOTORSPORTS IN MICHIGAN GOING ON THREE WEEK CLUTCH INSTALL SLAVECILYNDER PUT IN LEAKING LIKE A SIV. IS IT POSSIBLE TO MACHINE AND SHIM OR SHOULD IT BE REPLACED? PLEASE HELP!
I feel I am the spec star III expert now after 3 installs in 2 weeks. The first issue is what master are you using?
If the slave is leaking then it is trash. Get a new one...
The most important issue is when they pulled the pressure plate off did they reset the adjustments on them? That is the key to having the clutch engage properly. The pressure plate automatically adjusts itself as the disk wears out but if you pull the PP off it will throw the adjustment way off. You have to pull the inspection plate off, push the clutch in, then slide the lever towards the spring. There should be some paint where the initial adjustment was set.
Hope this helps...
I can tell you that all of the problems I had were due to installation. This clutch is awesome. Stock pedal feel, no noise, and it holds a butt load of power(over 650rw)! I am impressed so far as you can tell.
If you cranked the car up w/ the leaking slave then you have a very good chance of brake fluid contaminating the disk. I had to purchase another carbon disk b/c it happened to me. $200 per disk also directly from spec.
I CALLED A.P.E. TODAY THEY SAID THEY CHANGED THE O-RING AT THE BOTTOM AND BLED THE SYSTEM FOR 5 HOURS AND I CAN PICK THE CAR UP TOMMOROW. THE MASTER AND SLAVE IS THE SAME ONE MCLOUD USES IR IS ADJUSTABLE FOR CLUTCH FLUID FLOW. SPEC CLUTCHS TOLD ME THE SYSTEM EITHER HOLDDS FLUID AND WORKS OR THE PEDAL WILL STAY ON THE FLOOR. A.P.E. SAYS TODAY MY PEDAL IS WORKING FINE. WE SHALL SEE TOMMOROW. THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLY
I DO NOT KNOW??? I WILL ASK THEM TOMMOROW.
SPECK SAID SOMTHING ABOUT GETTING SOME SORT OF INSULATION AROUND THE 2' LINE BETWEEN THE SLAVE AND THE MASTER TO KEEP IT FROM BOILING HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING?
First off it does not take 5 hours to bleed the clutch. Get your car away from them now!
From the clutch sticking to the floor problem it sounds like the PP is out of adjustment. That is what happened to me. Ask them if they know it is an adjustable PP. If they do not know then definately get your car out of there! If the PP is not set correctly upon installation it will not function property. And yes I speak from experience.
