Hello all! Hope everyone is having a good thanksgiving! I have a question about the rear impact bar on a c5. I have a friend who was hit in a parking lot. The corner of the driver side impact bar is bent into the tub ever so slightly. The question is, should we replace the impact bar, or is it possible to pull it back out and straighten like before? I have attached a picture of the impact bar and it appears to be able to be removed from the frame since you can just purchase the rear impact bar, but how?
Yea just a 2/4 in the cross member to straighten it. The frame is vanilla carbon steel, very form-able and very weldable.
If it was a big hit, you may want to check for frame damage. A quick check is to make sure both rear wheels are about the same distance to the body panel. (check at the seam between the rear fender and rocker panel. They should be within 5mm of each other. If not, then the frame may be buckled. Also, rear enders tend to jam the torque tube into the bellhousing and crack it, so that is something to look at also.
