Just got my car out today from the garage to have the harmonic balancer replaced. The balancer died on me Sunday morning so I had to have the car towed to my mechanic. Anyways he put in a new balancer and replaced a few belts. The car runs great now but after driving it around today I am getting the service engine soon light on my DIC. Why am I getting this code?
Re: Service engine light? huh? (BrightRed C5 SWFL)
Just out of curiosity what do you mean by your balancer died? Did it just stop rotating or was it something more catastrophic? I think mine needs to be replaced soon too :cry
Well from what my mechanic told me is that the balancer GM puts on our cars cannot keep up with the high HP of our cars. There is some rubber piece that deterierated over time and therefore the belt just snapped off. I did a research on this over the internet and from what I have found out is that these balancers we get from the factory are not machined correctly and the belt falls out over time. If I can find the link I will post it.

Are you sure it's the HB? Maybe you mean the tensioner pulley. These
have been known to create a belt coming off. It's located on
the passenger side, front of engine, opposite the alternator.
The HB is in the center/front/bottom of engine.

When the steering rack was removed to replace the balancer
The steering shaft from the steering wheel was not aligned
The steering wheel sensor voltage should be 2.50vdc with the
wheel straight ahead. Must be read on a techII Body control Section
Happens alot Easy to fix with TECHII info sets a service engine
class c code no mil request( check engine) Hope this helps
I will be at my shop in Fort Myers friday off and on come by I will
align it for you if you mechanic can't Vetetech

Hi,
My family owns ATI Performance Products and we make the ATI Super Damper. This is a direct replacement for the Factory Damper. Factory dampers are okay but they will die and usually they will die and either come apart or just stop protecting the motor. I do all of the damper testing at engine shops around the country to measure how much crankshaft twist the motor has. This is ESPECIALLY important for the big RWHP guys.
Stock dampers are simply a hub that presses onto the crank, then a strip of elastomer that then has an outer ring (pullies) pressed onto the that elastomer. So you drive all of your accesories off of a piece of elastomer. So what happens to that elastomer when it gets real hot or old and cracked? The damper stops working! The factory also only relies on the press fit of the hub to the crack and no keyway. We also take of that problem with a pin kit. Please check out http://www.atiperformanceproducts.com or send me an email with your questions. We are in the business of protecting engines not hurting them. The website has lots of info and some pics of the dampers.

No, he means HB, I had to have my HB replaced because of that damn rubber piece. :mad
Actually I didnt have any signs or warnings of this happening. I was going to work and all of a sudden I heard this loud noise in my engine. Almost like a loud tapping. Anyways I got rod of that service engine soon light. Went to Ron (VeteTech) today and he fixed it for me. :)

Did he fix the problem causing the SES light or did he just reset the light? What code caused the light to come on?
The steering shaft from the steering sensor wasnt aligned right and he fixed it. Dont know exactly what he did but its all better now. Dont know exactly which code through it off though.
