Default drive shaft coupling

Talking to a guy at a local shop today, told him I was changing stock rear diff. (2.72 gears) to a z06 (3.73). Getting car ready for a supercharger, wanted to get around 600 hp @ wheels. He said there was a coupling in driveshaft that would need to be changed to hold that hp. He recommended an aluminum driveshaft with beefier coupling. I didn't know shaft had coupling in it, thought it was just drive shaft with u-joints at each end. Any input for newbie?

to my understanding the aluminum couplers can create more noise/vibration, I opted for driveshaft shop poly couplers... you might also consider upgrading the driveshaft as well since you plan to add quite a bit of power, the stock driveshaft is really thin walled and is pretty much like a metal fence post and also known to twist when exposed to high hp... you have a lot of options though, there's a 3" driveshaft, 3.5" that eliminates couplers, carbon fiber that eliminates couplers, and then some guys use a combination of aluminum/poly couplers on top of that... I was advised to stay away from the carbon driveshafts in a high hp car because they can tear apart and splinter and the ends are glued together which have also been known to fail... also inspect the bearings in the torque tube and replace them if they are questoionable... here are a couple pics of my 3" dss driveshaft and couplers before I installed it in my torque tube

I went with CF and a poly and aluminum coupler setup.
