12v power in trunk / cargo area
Closest I can think of is the cigarette lighter in the console but how do I get the console out without taking half the dash apart? Then I have to run a wire to the back which won't be fun so I'd really rather find a power source that's already back there.
Any suggestions?
Another power source is under the dash in the passenger side footwell near the fuse panel. It's behind the carpet on the toe-board at the top left corner near the BCM. Remove the panel by lifting up on the latches at the top corners. There is a black connector at the top left corner near the BCM above the two white diagnostic connectors. Pull forward on the locking tab and pull the connection apart from the wire harness.
The plug has 3 wires; an yellow wire is powered thru the ignition switch, an orange wire is always hot and a third is a ground. The two power leads are each protected by a 15A fuse. Butt-splice into one of those power leads and the ground wire and simply run wire to the rear of the car where you need it.
The rear-mounted CD changer uses 12v power from the radio, so you could find the 12v power lead to that device and splice into that. The satellite radio device doesn't take a lot of power so that would be another way to power it.
In fact, you don't need to take the console off to get to the wiring, although you probably will if you want to run a wire under the console to the cargo area. Just pop off the panel with the traction control button.
You don't need to remove the radio bezel to get the console out--it should just slide back and up once you remove the 2 nuts under the panel.
