Has anyone added a head and cam package to an automatic with 3.42 gears aand a 2400 stall converter? Without headers? What is this package like on the street without slicks on a daily basis? Is it too tricky in the wet? I will be running the runflats for at least 15,000 miles before switching to another brand of run flats (do not want to get stuck without a spare tire). Thanks.
I also have a 98 coupe with a very similar setup to your car, I am upgrading to a higher stall converter and cam and heads. I think you will find that most of the hotter cam shafts require a converter with more stall (at least 2800) and a good set of LT headers to see the maximum performance. The Vettedoctors have installed cam and heads with the Pro Torque 2400 converter and 3.42s I am sure they can advise you on a cam and head combo that will work with the PT2400. Good Luck!!
I have the package in my signature with excellent daily driveability. It was done in your neck of the woods by The Vette Doctors in Amityville, NY. The car behaves like a stock car other than an 800 RPM idle and meaner sounding exhaust, thanks to the Corsa's. I would highly reccomend the Vette Doctors. I am not complaining with an emmissions legal, 400 RWHP, 407 RWTQ convertible that has always been reliable.
Thanks for all of the advice. The Vette Doctors will be performing the upgrades and have done all of the work that I have done to date. Carmen and Dennis are great to work with and always do the right thing, before the work is performed and after as well which in my opinion is even more important with these computer controlled cars. Will it be very loud with the headers? I had an '85 with headers and Borlas years ago and it would be too loud for the wife these days. I like it a little quieter these days....getting older!
As for the torque converter. 2400 stall is too low for a heads and cam car. Your car will be making much more power and torque and the optimum area in the rpm band is higher, therefore you want the torque converter to match that power output. 3000++ (3500 preferable) would be better :D
I have to disagree with the torque converter comment. I have the Pro-Torque 2400, at the advice of The Vette Doctors, and I am very happy with the way the car performs. My car is street driven 99% of the time and acts totally stock unless I really get on it. That's just how I want my setup to be. The idle is fine and the car is very easy to drive on a daily basis, passes emmissions & has 400 RWHP & 407 RWTQ. Not bad for a convertible sleeper IMHO.
I had a H/C, 3.42, 2800 Stall, TPIS Long-tubes for over a year. Drove just fine. No problems wet or dry. Just be careful like you would with a stock car.
