Have recently acquired 2001 C5. Love it. But, when driving into the sun, the windshield looks like it has sand in it. Makes looking thru it very distracting. Is this due to age? Anything I can do about it? Or does have to be replaced. Thks
I don't know how many miles are on your car. Your windshield is likely pitted and there is no fixing it, just replacement. My Vette has 260,000 miles. I use 0000 steel wool and Invisible glass to clean my windshield. A really clean windshield helps but does not eliminate the problem.
There may be something like fine overspray on the windshield that won't come off with window cleaners. Try taping the trim and carefully washing it with lacquer thinner or acetone. If that doesn't do any good, there are glass polishers that I'm going to try on one of my vehicles. Easier to buy a new windshield, but you can't get an original for a C5 z06.

Thks, Apex. Another worthwhile tip. I'll try it out. Just concerned abt the acetone & the trim. Used to load that stuff on the marine tankers I sailed on...nasty but heady stuff
My windows were nasty from years of wax, bugs and pollen etc...
I used Goof off followed by a good window cleaning. It just took a tiny bit on a rag.
That worked for me.
I tried milder solvents like alcohol and mineral spirits without results.
if its over spray take a brand new razor blade and some glass cleaner and in one direction at about a 45 degree angle swipe the glass lightly and see if it come's off?
if its rock chip's then you may have to replace it
This is probably a stretch, but if it looks like the windshield is covered with millions of rainbow sparkles when facing into the sun, it might be Aquapel instead of sand blasting. I use Aquapel on my vehicles and have noticed the sparkling "sandblasted" effect on every one.

A stretch, but just wanted to throw it out there.
That's exactly it! Maybe the original Owner did use Aquapel. It's frustrating; can't see !@##$% when facing into the sun!!. Any way to reverse the effects of Aquapel?

Glad you may have found your answer. My windshield looks like a star field when heading into the sun or at night but no rainbows.
As for cleaning, you might try vinegar. As stated previously, I use 0000 steel wool and Invisible Glass (in the aerosol can, don't like the spray bottle results for some reason) Bugs and crud come off nicely and the windshield sheds water like it has been treated with rain x but no haze or streaking.
Good luck and let us know if you resolve your problem.

Try The Eastwood Company. They have some excellent products for getting the windshield cleaned up. I used a buffer with some abrasive paste on my Mustang's windshield. Before I got started the windshield looked like it was sandblasted. Oncoming headlight glare was a major problem. It took a number of hours but the improvement was worth the time and oncoming headlight glare was greatly reduced.
