Guidance on Shift Cable Issue
The main issue is that the boot that guides the wire near the clips that manually adjust will not stay in place and causes the wire to bend and not work. When I hold this boot in place... voila. [Does this mean I have to replace the entire cable now just because this stupid sleeve won't stay in place?]
Second issue: There seems to be some resistance, maybe rubbing, of the shift linkage on the transmission against the park/neutral safety switch housing making it very difficult to shift into R and P. [Is this just related to my wire issue above?]
I broke the guide shaft, meaning... new cable is required as that piece cannot be replaced by itself. BTW, these guide tubes are very easy to break, if you hear a pop - that's what happened.
Thankfully the car is already on a lift with the exhaust off... just need to unzip the tunnel plate and d/c the cable.
If the plastic housing on front of your cable is not broken, just make sure the big staple is in place to secure the housing in the bracket in the drive line tunnel.
I have replaced both styles without removing tunnel plate. Adjustment at transmission is kinda trial and error tedious especially lieing on your back under car. Good Luck.
