I started up the '98 and noticed the low oil pressure warning was on and the gauge reading zero. I did a search and found out the typical issue is the oil pump. I wanted to check the oil pressure to confirm what was happening so I removed the old sensor. I bought a 16mm x1.5 to 1/8" pipe thread adapter from Summit Racing ATM-2268 for $13.95 and extended the 1/8" pipe so I could put on a gauge. After starting the engine, the oil pressure was normal. I had previously cut a hole in my cowl when I changed out the sensor once before. I know, it's blasphemy. Oh well. The hole allowed me to extend the gauge above the hood and drive it around. The last time I had an oil pressure problem the gauge read 80 psi which is typically an oil pressure sensor. I'm very relieved the problem was with the oil pressure sensor but was surprised the sensor went bad again but with opposite gauge reading results. Interestingly, I bought the last oil pressure sensor from Summit Racing, it was a Standard Motor Part SMP-PS308 I bought on 2/21/15 for $37.97. I would have thought it would have lasted longer. Anyway, I bought an Auto Zone PS340 switch with a lifetime warranty for $49.99. It's super easy to change with my cowl mod and, who knows, it might or might not last either. At least I can get another one under their lifetime warranty.
BTW, I tried blowing air pressure into the sensor when I removed it with it connected to the wiring harness and the ignition switch on. It still read zero. I'm not sure if that's a valid test but I tried it with no change in the gauge. It just stayed on zero.
