im sure this has been discussed a million times but what are you guys recommending for a good cold air intake without breaking the bank? thanks. sounds like the vararam is nice kit but has clearance issues.
Once or twice...
Some swear by the Vararam, the Honker is another popular unit. I prefer a standard open element unit such as supplied by AFE, Airraid, etc., with a dry synthetic (non oiling) filter if possible.
I've been eyeing up the Mid America MAM $400 kit that includes a new mass air flow sensor - haven;t seen anyone who has one that has reviewed it though -

The Callaway Honker and Vararam are about the two best cold air intakes. The Blackwing is a good air intake, but it is not a cold air one.
Can't comment on the clearance issues with the Vararam, but many reports have been made about the difficult of the install, especially all the parts fitting tightly together.
The newer VeraRam intakes are much better fitting than the older models. While it can take time if you have never worked on the front end before, it should fit without any issues. Unless you are exceeding 450 hp forget about replacing the MAF. When everything is done and you have about 50 miles on the new set up, then get a good scan/log tune and TB tune. It will really wake the car up, especially in the 2000-5000 rpm band. Many have used COW with excellent results.

thanks to all for the great info. And Gordy, you answered my next question about the tune. I will research the COW tune so far all is stock other than the cat back slp loudlouth. a cold air kit is next on the list.

thanks - the more I researched the MAF on the MAM system doesn;t seem to matter on my 2001 - looks like they changed to an 85 in 01 so why pay for something I don't need
I just installed the AirRaid system - uses the stock MAF - easy install with a few tips I learned the hard way - don't tighten anything down even snug before fitting it back in - need the wiggle room to align it all properly - butt dyno gives it 2 thumbs up
