I just got a very reasonable quote to install a Corsa exhaust and when I said I was looking to do the exhaust and their XO pipe he asked me why? Said he typcially only sees people put the XO pipe on when they have headers - mine are stock. I've heard some say it takes away some of the firecracker sound - just curious what the experts on here think - should I save my $$? Not sure that I would be adding headers down the road.
X-pipes are way overpriced, but you definately do not have to have aftermarket headers for an x-pipe to benefit you. you will not gain any hp but it will smoothe out the sound of your exhaust and get rid of that odd motorboat sound. I was much happier with the sound after I added an x-pipe. I would try to find a forum member selling a used one because new ones are very pricey, for what they are.

On the '00 I had, I ended up installing an x-pipe on the car when I ran a set of B&B Route 66 catbacks. The popping and resonance was very bad and the x-pipe cured it. I did not have any LT headers on the car. So yes, you can still run an x-pipe without headers. It did make a difference in the exhaust note.
I ran an X pipe on my stock exhaust. Didn't add and performance but it made the exhaust sound smoother. Really like the sound way more than the H pipe. Now have LS7 manifolds and 3 inch exhaust back with an H pipe. Hate the sound. Back to the motorboat sound it had with the stock exhaust with H pipe. Going to put a X pipe back on this exhaust.
