Turning the Rotor
I am getting ready to replace my front pads. Can I remove the rotor and have it turned at some auto part store or do I need to turn them while it's on the car? Which is more preferable? Which is preferable?
Thanks in advance

Common wisdom is that turning the stock C5 rotors will cause them to warp quicker. You might want to consider replacing them if they are warped now.
Leave them alone if they aren't warped.

Thank you for the quick response. There is some vibration from the front. I presume the rotors are warped. I have only 36k miles on them.
Could replacing the pads solve my brake shudder?
Thank you!!

You and I are lucky from what I read on this forum. Our rotors lasted MUCH longer than some others!
At any rate, I was told/read that turning the rotors would smooth things out for a while but the shudder would come back sooner because the rotors would be thinner and get even hotter. The heat would then warp the rotor again.
I replaced my stock setup with new OEM pads and Baer Eradispeed rotors. The Eradispeeds were a bit pricey but I was buying "looks" along with smooth braking.

This is a flat grinding process that removes less material, results in a flatter surface and won't bed in with grooves as easily.
It's harder to find someplace that does it, and costs a little more, but is supposed to be world's better for the rotor.
Or, just replace them. They don't cost that much, and you could upgrade to slotted, drilled or slotted and drilled rotors for better looks.
