Not if he just pulls the business end out of the socket and sticks it in the power port under the console lid!
I had to file mine as the dual USB I got was bigger than the accessory hole
and it didn't have a removable thumb.
If you're going to just use the thumb which the ad does not say it has then if it has it yes it will work.
These things are so cheap and there's many to choose from like with the digital v.

Thought I'd bring this back to life. Has anyone found one that fits the lighter hole properly? What about one with the correct socket for the factory GM wiring terminal? I really thought there would be a direct fit one since lighters are so standard on GM cars, but I can't seem to find one. They're all just universal from what I see.

I installed one in place of the console lighter last fall. I ordered the GM cigarette lighter removal tool too. Made the job much easier. Had to enlarge the hole but not by much. It took about 15 minutes tops. The charger is lit up by a blue ring around it that stays on after the ignition key is off so I disconnected it for the winter to avoid unnecessary current draw.
There is no plug that fits into the console cigarette lighter plug, trust me, I tried looking. The one next to the ashtray is an even weirder design.
I've read your excellent posts about lighting so I definitely believe you.

This is the direction I've been leaning towards, but I guess I'll look for one that isn't lighted if so. I'm also going to check into what outputs my Alpine has and consider that as well. Either way I'm ditching the lighters. I don't need them for anything other than phone charging and they're connection is so hit or miss for that.
