p0410 secondary air system
Apparently my 2004 convertible is a California car. It has an idiotic air pump that dumps fresh air into the exhaust manifolds to reduce tailpipe emissions on cold start ups. 
Started getting the codes and finally tracked down the issue. There is a bypass/shut off valve right next to the air pump. It was blocking airflow with or without vacuum.
I ordered a new one but in the mean time, I just put in an elbow. Now it blows plenty of air.
The thing is, it turns off automatically after a few minutes. Why the vac actuated valve?
I bet I don't even need a new valve. I'm going to run it without to see if I get the code back.
I have flushed out the system with carb cleaner and penetrating oil three times to no avail.
A lot of people delete the system and reprogram the PCM (I'll be having the PCM reprogrammed to turn off those sensors anyway) but I'm curious about the function of that crappy bypass valve.
Anyone familiar?
