Quick question on an Oil Pump. I'm getting ready this spring to cam the LS1 along with LT headers and X pipe. Also, LS6 intake so while I'm in there what oil pump should I use? A Melling regular one or a high volume one? Your thouights.

Thanks,

Jim

Melling regular IMO (high pressure spring one fine too) unless you plan on adding oil cooler or something down the lines that would change the oil flow requirements.

Buy the regular stock type oil pump. High volume high pressure is good for oil coolers and high rpm driving. Normal daily driving there is no need for more volume and pressure. Purchase what you plan for. If you will go bigger on the cam or heads e.t.c then buy it now. Remember one thing, our cars have a bypass so if the pressure goes above 60psi the oil will not flow through the filter anymore and will flow directly through the engine due to the high pressure. High pressure will burst an oil filter. Also higher volume/pressure may not lubricate properly because of the speed it is traveling. 10psi for every 1K RPM. The stock pump does that without problems.
