Default Help quick, I race tomorrow!!

I reprogrammed my computer with my Hypertech III PPP. I also have an 01+ Intake manifold. I am sporadically getting premature detonation above 4500 rpm under WOT.

I put Amaco 93 octane with a can of Octane boost. When the engine was hot last night after I did this the problem appeared to go away. It did it again a little while ago.

What causes Premature detonation? How do I prevent it? How much damage does it do to the car? What do the knock sensors cause the computer to do?

What does changing the gap on the plugs do?

Since you race tommorrow ill offer what help I can. My guess is that the hypertech advanced the base timing to far, you are now experiencing detonation whent the engine gets hot. Solution= remove program, from what I know Hypertech has always relied on timing to make more power, and there is a reason that GM set the timing where it did. I think the hypertech works for some people and not others, not sure if the engines knock sensors function properly with the hypertech, from the sounds of it they arent. Good luck

My guess says dump the Hypertech programming. The base tuning gives you about all the advance you can use. It's just my guess but you could burn a valve or a hole in a piston it you race with with a car that is going into pre ignition while just running around on the street. Everything will get worse if running hard at the track. I'm also wondering why your knock retard system isn't working?

I just hear the knock for a split second then it stops. It did it twice last night, then I put octane boost in, and it stopped...instantly. Don't think the octane boost got circulated throught the tank that fast. Maybe the knock retard did work...How is it supposed to function.
