Suddenly my 2000 C5 with 90K miles has extremely loud exhaust noise. I know some pay good money for that sound, but my community won't stand for it. Started up loud, drove 2 minutes, turned around and came home. Started the car 2 days later, and still loud as hell. I'll take it to a garage for repair, but I like to have some idea what could be wrong so I won't be shocked or find out they sold me something I don't need. Appreciate the help. Thanks.

Check where your over the axle pipes connect to the mid-pipe. I have heard of some owners experiencing a failure in the welds, causing the exhaust to break loose, which would make the exhaust very loud since there would effectively be no mufflers attached on whichever side may have come loose.
Happened on my 350z when the flange to the muffler broke.
It happens, get it welded up and possible check the motor mounts. Mine were worn and the constant movement of the engine was putting a ton of pressure on the flanges
