Default Got LMC5 today

I got my LMC5 in the mail today and I guess I'll do it tomorrow. I've read through the instructions and it looks pretty simple other than the little bit confusing first step.
I have a perfect functioning system so do first put the key in and then turn the igniton on and then pull fuse 23 in that order and then unhook the battery?
That is the part that is a little confusing since that part is on a separate page and not listed in STEP ONE.
Also is there a need to do anything with the brown wire if everything seems ok after the instalation? It reads to me like it's only used if there are messages being displayed. I have never had a message of any kind on this car yet and would just like to leave it unhooked if it isn't really needed.

Most of us use the LMC5 as/for insurance...not to get stuck somewhere that's very inconvenient. Follow the instructions and do the brown wire mod in the instructions and if you get stuck, call Richard...he is the best.

The instructions say the Brown wire mode is optional. Do it anyway. It saves you time should the gremlin "pull Key" message comes up after the LMC5 install. The LMC5 and brown wire install is very easy even for me as a challenged car DIYer.

I also would agree and advise to do the brown wire mod at the time of initial install. You have it all opened up anyway so it's much easier than going back to do it later when that message comes up and the car is stuck at 1mph. My initial install was fine for about a month and then I got the message and the car shut off, etc,. so I had to go back and do the mod later anyway. Was very friggin annoying, and lucky for me I was home when that happened.

Thumbs up from me. It fixed mine. Watching the video prior was handy. 10 minute video and took me a half hour...about right.

Mine doesn't do the pull key wait 10 seconds anymore, it's just stuck on service column lock and has no 1mph fuel cut. I feel like I shouldn't touch the car until I get an LMC5, am I right where I want to be? I feel lucky it didn't do this in the locked position.

My situation is similar, but, slightly different. Mine went straight to 'service column lock'. Very uncomfortable. I just got my lmc5 recently but haven't had a chance to install it yet.

Your best bet is to get and install an LMC5 and do the brown wire mod WHEN you install it. ie don't wait for the "pull key...." message to happen.
I did the LMC5 on my 01 vert 6 speed - didin't do the brown wire and I've been getting the pull key 10 sec msg - guess I'll have to go back in and do the brown wire mod but would love to see a video on that part - reading the directions hasn;t quite got thru my head yet
