Who has installed Vinyl hood graphics and how difficult is it? I have a couple of ideas for hood stripes and play do do it my self. I have installed a few small decals on this car, but nothing as large as a hood stripe. The car has silver metallic cheek stripes, and I want to hood stripes to be the same color. I am considering buying a roll of the proper color vinyl and knifeless tape and doing the job myself. Because I really like the silver metallic against the navy blue, I want to continue that with the stripes. For give the crude Photoshop mock-up.
Here are some Photoshop mock-ups of what I want am thinking for the stripe job. Suggestions, comments, other ideas, etc.:
I installed a set of purchased vinyl stripes on the hood, roof, and rear deck of my C5 a few years ago. By using soapy water to permit final positioning, and then carefully sqeegying the water from under the vinyl, it was a fairly easy job. The bad news was that the vinyl shrank in a couple of years, leaving an ugly border. The stripes were removed.

What do you think caused the shrinkage? Did the vinyl shrink along all the edges, or only in some places?
Just an FYI, I had an ERA Cobra and had the paintwork done by a pro who did a lot of stripes. He said that in order to make the stripes appear parallel, they were actually wider at the ends, as they wrapped down the front and back. He did a gorgeous job. You might have to test with some masking tape if it would bother you to have stripes that appear to get narrower here or there.

Good points. Most all of the stripe kits follow the two roof humps and are narrower in the front. I think that is how they manage that. Using the vinyl, you lay down knifeless tape, so you will have already adjusted for any shape issues.
