High temps at Idle
So I had the car sitting idling, and was messing around with something else. When I got back in the car, the temperature instantly shot up to 260F, threw a Service check light, and the DIC said "Service Engine Soon". I am not to worried since I beat this car up regularly and I'm familiar with overheating problems. So I shut the car off completely. I turned it back on, the temp was normal, and nothing was crazy. No weird smells and no leaks. So I drove it up the street, seemed fine. I stopped, and my temps started to rise. I got on forums and everyone says turn on your A/C, so I did. Normal temps at 185/190 with A/C on, no other issues. With A/C off, temps rise to 200F at a stop light.
Why didn't my fans kick on? Are my relays bad? Apparently my fans are working fine. Can I fix this issue where the fans will kick on once the temps rise to over 225F or wherever the kick on point is. Is this the initial action I am looking for, or does the car have an idling/overheating problem? I checked under the car and aside from some debris my radiator, etc is clean. I know its a bottom feeder so I keep a close watch on everything.
Thank you,
Phil
