Default Sensor or oil pump?

2000 convertible with 48k miles purchased a couple weeks ago from original older owners that live about a mile away.

Shortly after purchase, noticed that oil pressure gauge reading 80 pounds all the time. Researched on forum, probably bad oil pressure sensor. Looks like a challenging fix, so took to local shop where I've been going for ten years.

The pulled the fuel rails and intake, replaced the sensor and put it all back together. Pricey but fixed. Gauge reads like my old C5 and about like my C6.

This week's project was to pull the seats out and replace the seat covers-- long story on why they needed to be replaced- but they did. Had the doors open today while I put the seats in, connected the wires and bolted them down.

Decided to go for a drive - -car started slowly, sounds like weak battery but it started...got low oil pressure warning . . gauge reads zero . . DIC oil pressure reads zero. Shut down . . .no weird sounds, tried again with same results.

Recalled Forum stories that low battery can produce funky gauge results so pull battery, take down to local O'Reilly's-- it's one of theirs, so there's a credit. Installed new battery, car starts fine but same results-- zero pressure on the gauges and get the warning on DIC.

The good news is no screeching from the engine- rods are still in the block . . . So-- bad sensor . . ..or bad oil pump?

I'm thinking (hoping) bad sensor?

Thanks

This was one of those 'wake up in the middle of the night' thoughts . . .

I should note that the oil pressure readings were fine on the drive home from the shop . . .BUT

I took the fuel rail covers off to clean them up and reinstalled them yesterday before I put the seats back in . . .

I'm wondering if I might have knocked a wire off the oil pressure sensor when I put the fuel rail covers back on?

Anyone have a picture of what the wiring to the sensor looks like? I'm gonna pull the FRCs back off and look around . . . I may be my own worst enemy here.

Thanks - -

Unless you somehow managed to damage the wiring or the connector itself was never properly clipped back on the sender, it is not likely something you could easily get to........
Doing self inflicted damage is well within my wheelhouse but you're right . . . it would appear that even I would have a tough time getting that this . . .

Many thanks - -

Default Update

In the "in case you're interested department . . "

Normal noise levels when starting the car would indicate the engine's getting oil--so likely a bad sensor. Wiring to sensor seems too tight like maybe reinstallation of the intake caught a wire - - -

Drove a mile back to the shop and just as I pull in the gauge begins working- grudgingly . .10lbs, then slowly advances up near 40. I've asked the shop to replace with OEM GM sensor and while it's there, change the oil.... should be finished today.

I'll provide another update if there's any surprises.

Thanks-

Someone on here said to only use the brass one as they tend to last longer.

Yeah- I read that in the search I did too - - after they'd installed the first one . . . .glad the shop stood behind their work- there's a lot of labor in this for a $75 part . . .

If anyone in the East Valley or Scottsdale needs a recommendation on a shop- shoot me a PM and I'll give you their info.
