Yes I did do a search, my question is , would a bad gas cap cause a fuel smell due to it not sealing correctly.
Notices last two days I get a residual fuel smell in the garage after driving , have gone over top to bottom no leaks visible, I do get a strong smell right where the gas cap is, also is there not suppose to be somepressure released when the gas cap is opened, I have noticed that in all my Vets, but I do not get that sound anymore, so I am thinking gas cap seal.
I have read about the crossover tube in C5's , but I see no leaks like others have seen, only 30K mile on 1998 vehicle .
Any chance the outlet side of your fuel filter is leaking? On my '01, the seal on my fuel filter went bad, and the filter would "drip".....right on the exhaust pipe. Not enough gas to start a fire, THANK GOD, and also small enough that it would just vaporize. As soon as I shut off the car, the drip stopped, so I never saw the leak, till I looked under the car while it was parked and running.
