I have an automatic tranny in my '99 Corvette Coupe. We just installed a NX wet nitrous system, along with a MSD window switch to stop the spray between shifts.
Before I'll feel safe about spraying, I'd like to firm up the shift points as far as they'd go to avoid burning up the tranny.
I've considered the Hypertech Power Programmer because I live in Memphis where their company is based, but what other options do I have. Here's what I need to do all in one:
- firm up the shift points
- remove top speed limiter
I don't want to change the timing or the fuel (unless I could just change the fuel independently to richen things). I don't want to trust "their" programming on these aftermarket programmers because I know the pill suggestions for fuel and nitrous provided by NX are selected based on stock timing and fuel on the LS1.
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (revo1059)
Really? I was told that the top speed limiter on a C5 'vette was at 155 MPH. Last night on my way back from Atlanta, heading to Memphis, I took it to 160 MPH on US Highway 78 without any problems.
If there is no speed limiter, then all I need is a module to firm up shift points I guess.
I could do LS1Edit, but no one around here tunes that stuff. What to do?
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (evil-1)
If there's no top speed limiter then all I really need right now is something to firm up my shiftpoints as hard as they will go. What's on the market that just firms up the shiftpoints on an automatic C5?
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (hypec5)
i think there is a mph limit and i would raise it raise rpm to 6300 how did u wire msd did u send it back for 5 volt sq wave hyper should firm shift but call them first
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (THARS1)
yeah, you're supposed to cut those two small wires to go into 4cylinder mode. then read the RPM without the use of a tach driver.
i haven't done it yet, so i can't tell you anything .. i don't know. this is just some stuff i read from another post on here. i'm supposed to configure my MSD window switch this week.

Help. I don't know where to start :)
Say it with me T R A N S G O shift kit..Yeah that's right :yesnod: You need a shift kit. Probably the best bang for the buck out there for the automatic 4L60E transmission.Check with Shawn at www.theLAPD.com for the price(about $109) and get it asap! Find a qualified transmission technician to install it and you will be one happy camper...GUARANTEED!!
The 1-2 shift will leave a 6 ft chirp and the shifts will be as crisp and sure as you will ever feel .This is probably the best kept secret out there. Transgo has been in business for 35 years and makes a fantanstic product. You can search the corvette forum archives for posts on this subject for more details or e-mail me and I can give you more specifics...:D
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (vstella)
How does the Trans-Go shift kit work? Is it just a computer that plugs inline to firm up shifts or is it a mechanical part that must be installed in the tranny? Explain the installation some more and the specifics. I am very interested.
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (hypec5)
The Transgo shift kit is a kit made up of springs and valves and small washers that modify your transmissions valve body to increase line pressure and the reasult is firmer and more accurate shifts. it also allows you to upshift and downshift manually without the computer interfearing. It's a MECHANICAL modification and really makes sense for the automatic C5..:D Once you have driven in a C5 with it you will wonder why you have driven without it..It really works well. Best advice is to call Transgo and get a technician in your area to install it. Tha install takes about 4-5 hours and will change the personality of your car...You WILL love it!:yesnod:
Your factory shifts are sloppy and smooth ..that's the way GM wants it so that they can please the masses but for any one with a performance ideal the shifts are very disapointing..:D
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (vstella)
I'm sure I'm not skilled enough to install such a device myself. What can I expect to pay a mechanic to install it? Should it be done by a transmission specialty shop, or will any ASE certified mechanic be capable enough?
Re: Remove speed limiter, firm up shift points? (hypec5)
I would start looking through the phone book for transmission shops that do performance work. .Or.. you might look for a C5 tuner in Tennessee..I'm sure there are a few good ones ...OR you ask for a referral from some of the other Tennessee members.
