With a 6 speed, with all the bolt ons. The only thing I may leave alone is the pulley. I want to make 390-410 RWHP. Most tuners are recomending 113 LSA, some recomend 114 LSA. A good strong bottom end is more important to me than peak #s. I also want bullet proof reliability in a driver and passenger friendly package. Icurrently run an off-road x pipe with a touring exhaust and S-03s so the car is raspy at WOT but whisper quiet at criuse. BTW I also plan on heads for the car.
1 What are the pros/cons of each?
2 What are the emissions implications? I plan on hi flow cats.
3 What kind of reliability/maintainance needs can I expect? I plan on Manley hardened push rods and a spring other than the comp 918s
4 Will H/C make it louder at cruise?
I'll make the assumption you have already chose your heads and cam profile but are concerned with the idle quality. The LSA will have an effect on the idle just as the rpms will. Many have had good luck with a 112 LSA and modifying the throttle body to maintain a stable idle without surging. On the other hand a 114 LSA will make everything eaiser for the daily driver.
It's more of an issue for the automatic cars....I'd say go with the tuners and choose a cam with a 113 LSA...Just my .02:D
My motor makes the HP you would like to achieve, is very drivable and reliable.
The 114 lsa cam is nice for daily driving, you can feel it and hear it but it's not too lopey.
If you go to the 112 lsa and durations greater then 224 I think you will have emission concerns as well....JMHO
I just installed a comp cam 218-222 dur 562-566 lift 114-lobe sep. The car idles at 750 rpms and has great performance. It has a beautiful sound at idle. Just my 2 cents.

1) the lower lsa will generally have a little more overlap, thus poorer emissions and poorer idle quality. Drivability also seems to suffer a little with "cam surge". I've had 112's and 114's, and my personal preference is a 114lsa just because its cleaner and idles better. Never had a 113.
2) higher lsa will generally be cleaner (less overlap)
3) higher you rev your car, the more likely it will self destruct and the sooner it will wear out. Other than that, you can go quite a long time without having to do any abnormal maintanance. Maybe change the valve springs once a year just to be safe.
4) the heads/cam will only make it very slightly louder at cruise. My heads/cam car with a z06 catback and stock cats is silent with cruise set at 70....I have to turn the stereo totally off to hear it. The valvetrain will be a little noisier tho. :bb
