I was told that when I started my car a couple of days ago that some blue smoke came out of the right exhaust pipe and continued for a short while as I drove away. I was also told that the probable cause is some sort of valve seal that could be defective. Is there anybody that can confirm this or offer other possibilities.
My 2000 C5 has 41,000 miles with most of it on the Autobahn. If I had to guess, I would say no more than 20% city driving. I have changed oil 15 times since I drove the car out of Bremerhaven, never going below 25% oil life.
I also have the extended warranty.
When I started the car this morning I did not see anything at all in my rearview mirror. I'll have to get someone to take a look tomorrow morning.
Incidentally, the car was not driven hard prior to the reported incident.
Does your car use oil? If not, then I wouldn't worry about it.
Blue smoke is due to burning of oil, but if only a small amount makes it into the combustion chamber, then you usually won't see the smoke. You probably either got a bunch past a valve seal or through the PCV system directly into the intake. If it's the latter, it's a pretty simple fix. However, if you're not adding a bunch of oil between changes, I wouldn't worry about it.
Im interested in this as well. My c5 smoked a little once at start up and then it started smoking a little more under very hard acceleration. Any ideas?
