I have never seen oil pressure reading that high, I think it's reading wrong. I think the engine would start blowing out gaskets if that was a true reading. Might try a search of this.
Tried a search, got nothing. :(
Its possible it is reading wrong. These cars have those sort of problems. Just like my gas gauge going to empty when it gets right under 1/4 of a tank. Little issues like this are driving me crazy.
You weren't accidentally in the metric system were you? I don't remember what the metric equivalent of PSI is, but perhaps that's why the reading seems so wacky. I've never heard of a pressure that high. Otherwise, its probably a bad sensor. The only way I could imagine such a high pressure is if major oil passages in the block were clogged. If that were the case, you'd probably have major engine failure already. So I'm still betting on a bad sensor.
Nope no metric system. I hope its just a bad sensor. My question is, do I wait til Saturday when I was taking it in anyway for gas gauge problem or do I take it in tomorrow? I certainly don't want to damage anything but wouldn't the DIC give me some sort of error message if this was something that needed immediate attention?
Yes, but I would exercise caution anyways (when I called up the dealership and told them what happened, they insisted in flat bedding the car there!!).
Although, my car did run just like normal, so I'd say it is safe to drive.....
Dude same problem here...my analog gauge is pegged out past 80 and the DIC on mine reads 130psi. Do a search on "oil pressure" in the Tech section and you will get a lot of hits. I freaked out too. Turns out it is probably the oil pressure sending unit. If it goes bad then it will peg out your gauges. Check to make sure your oil temp is in the correct range too. If memory serves me correctly the sending unit is under and behind the intake manifold (towards the rear of the car). They said the sending unit is only like $40 but the labor to have the intake manifold removed at the dealership costs $300+. If you are still under warranty then you should be ok, but if not...dang! I have been driving mine like this for the past month with no problems. Other forum members have been driving theirs in this condition for up to a year...I was told if the pressure read 0, then usually it's the sensor that went bad, but if they are both pegged out then it's probably the sending unit. Gonna take mine to the dealership next week to have them check to see if this would fall under my extended warranty...good luck.
Been there done that my sending unit was bad also and the dealer charged me 150.00 which included the sending unit $300.00 is a little steep
check another dealer that guy seems to be way off on his price.BY the way
as long as your engine oil temp and water temp are within normal operating temps your good to go. If you can this is what I did I pulled into my garage opened the oil fill turned off the lights in the garage and got my mini mag flashlight looked down the fill spout and checked to see if i was getting a good flow of oil at idle. I had my wife press down on the acelerator and watched if the flow increased it did and looked fine.By the way im in NY and labor here is around $75 an hour that job shouldnt take more than one and a quarter hours.

Thanks...gonna check on this next week. Do I tell them it's the sending unit or do I let them figure it out...what would you recommend?
I win mine reads 130psi :D The sensors are known for this problem. If you don't have one might as well get an LS6 intake while you are at it. The intake needs to be removed for sender access. Some can do it blind, not me.. The replacement pn#12562230 my cost was about 30 bucks.
I would just say that your buddy had the same problem and the sending unit was bad and tell them you checked it the way I said about checking the flow and they will most likely say oh yeah they are known to go bad no big deal. This way you already have given them notice you have seen this before on another vette and they wont give you the HIGH HARD ONE OR LETS JUST SAY THEY WONT SHAFT YOU.

Cool...thanks...did you do this yourself or did someone help you? I wouldn't mind doing it if it isn't too hard to do. Why pay someone $150 when I can do it myself for $30. Do you have any instructions on how to do it, what it looks like and where exactly it's located...was it very hard to get to when you removed the intake manifold?
No, I am waiting on the rest of the H/C kit to get here so I can do it all at once. I don't think the intake is hard to swap hate to say it but... Look through the LS6 intake swap posts and I am sure they have excellent instructions. Just make sure to extend the vacuum line when you reinstall it. You will have heck with the stubby stock line.
