Default airbag issue for a 1997

So, SDM isn't listed in my DIC.

The car is a 1997 coupe.

I have an airbag light that's on (after 7 flashes), but my scan tool won't do airbag modules that are this old.

I tested all the places in the circuit that seemed to make sense. I followed the instructions in the manual, but don't have a scan tool (nor could I find one that I was sure would work) that will pull the codes any better than the DIC would.

The DIC doesn't list the SDM at all. It's not in the list.

I am at a total loss here.

Clock spring was even checked for continuity and works fine.

Thank you

I'm going to move this over to the C5 Tech section as a more appropriate place for answers to your questions.

Any help on this? Why wouldn't the SDM be listed in the DIC?

Find someone with a TECH II in your area and they will be able to check the system for you. It's possible it is as simple as a sensor being defective. But you really need a TECH II to diagnose it.

Why are you looking for access to the Sensing Diagnostic Module? It is installed over the transmission hump (under the console), under the dashboard, or under the seat in different vehicles. The SDM detects accelerations and makes split-second decisions for deployment (of airbags) and nondeployment events. It tracks acceleration (and in the case of a frontal crash, this is negative acceleration or deceleration) in discrete time packets every 10 msec., and based on the slope of the acceleration-time curve, determines whether a deployment will be necessary. Most importantly, it does this fast enough to allow for a rapid enough deployment to save a life.

Good luck... GUSTO

The airbag light came on. All connections register fine. The clockspring registers fine. I have no codes being thrown. I go into the DIC and the SDM *isn't there.*
