I have read just about every post on headlight issues but I have one question. All of a sudden my passenger headlight door of my 2002 zo6 stopped going up and if I manually open it it wont go down either. Tested power at the plugs and it seems good. I have never heard a grinding noise in the motor and it never was intermittent. Just one day stopped working. When I turn the switch I dont hear anything from the motor. All i hear is a click from the control module under it. The CM was a little wet after a recent car wash. Do you think its just the module? The driver side door works perfectly.
Thanks guys. I will put my ear to the motor and have someone turn them on and off.
I have checked with multimeter. I am getting power to the plug before the motor. Maybe I'll strip some of the wire right at the motor to see if it is making it there.
I am going to take the control module out tonight to check that out.
Usually a stripped gear in the motor will still make the whirring sound as it moves in both direction. If you only hear a click, it's possible that you may have a bad module. You can manually move the motor up and down with the **** behind the motor to confirm if the motor gears are cause for the failure. You can also swap the module to see if the failure follows the module. Hope this helps.
Cheers

although it seems the plastic gear is probably fine because he mentioned he's able to manually operate the headlight door. It would be interesting to verify with a multimeter whether or not the motor is getting power when turning on or off the headlights.

There is just one module for both headlights. He would have to swap with someone else's to test it.

It's been ages since I worked on a C5, but if you can't find one to swap with, swap the control wires at the module and see if it follows with the swap.

That's a good idea!
He could also apply 12v directly to the motor and then reverse it, to see if the headlight door opens and closes.
Thanks a lot everyone. I didn't have time today to work on the headlight. I spent the day changing oil, trans and diff fluid. Then I was trying to figure out why I lost about 6lbs of boost over the winter. So. Leaned my bov and checked my vacuum lines.
Im gonna take the module off tomorrow and try and swap wires to see if the other one works.
How do I give 12v directly to the motor?
is there a way to take module off without removing whole headlight assembly?
Hi Charlie,
Yes, you don't need to take the headlight asm out to remove the module. Believe 2 nuts hold the module to the metal frame.
I don't have my C5 book in front of me, (can take a photo and send it later) - but you can take couple wires and tap the connector that goes directly to the motor - reversing the polarities will make the motor move in the opposite direction.
