Re: Please give input about your aftermarket shifter (yellow01)
I'm quite happy w/ my Ripper. However, I'm sure it's not for everyone. It is definitely shorter and more precise, but requires much more effort and a bit more "notchy". No big deal to me in that I like the deliberate effort and notchy feel My biggest complaint w/ the stock shifter is that the 2-3, 4-5 shift was too loonnnng and not precise enough. With the Ripper, it's not a big issue.

Welp, my order is in. I went with the Hurst because I'm not really a drag racer, just want a more sports car like shifter, and hope to do some track days. The adjustability of the Hurst seemed nice too.
Re: Please give input about your aftermarket shifter (jschindler)
By the way, don't believe that the shifter loosens up. There is nothing to loosen up in it. It is the transmission that loosens up by about 5,000 miles.
You keep trying to tell them, but they just keep refusing to believe you.
There is nothing to loosen up :)
I had the Ripper for about a year, wasn't fun (for me) going into first and second, so I sold it to a forum member(he loves it).
Then I got the Hurst, it's slightly less stiff. Put on a taller shift ****, now it's acceptable. But I would have probably bought into a cut down stock shifter, if I hadn't already bought the Hurst.
The drivetrain noise is louder and there's a very slight rattle.
Re: Please give input about your aftermarket shifter (Number six)
Can't the black thing that you have to snap to the bottom of the shifter loosen up after pivoting on the ball? I know mine was really tight when I snapped it on.

Mine was tight when I snapped it on the Hurst, but it was also tight when I snapped it off the stock shifter.
Re: Please give input about your aftermarket shifter (yellow01)
I think you'll really like the Hurst. I used the softer springs and a taller shift **** and it is just what I want. Initially it was too stiff for me but this corrected it.
Re: Please give input about your aftermarket shifter (jschindler)
Then you've just gotten used to it. Don't believe me? Take any aftermarket shifter and before it is installed in the car, run the lever forward and back. There is no resistance at all - none. So what's to loosen up? Side to side? Not likely, that's just a factor of spring rates. Take the springs out and there is zero resistance. I feel 100% certain that in most cases its just the owner getting used to it. Just my .02. It's all good!
I think you are right. Only way I know to seriously loosen it up, is a taller shift ****. Then you have more leverage.
Re: Please give input about your aftermarket shifter (yellow01)
Hi all,I'm seriously considering LAPD's special on the Ripper or Hurst shifter, and am just curious about everyone's experience
yellow01 It's a touch/ feel kind of thing, one or the other will greatly improve shifting which one is up to you. I love the ripper and have won many street races with better/faster and precise shifting against comp or stronger competitors.
Which ever shifter you choose, your on the right track with LAPD, they will get it to you fast, factory fresh and at a great price..... :yesnod: ..
