Ok heres the deal I want to remove my MAF screen now I have seen some Pro's and Con's on this matter so Im asking anyone with a 98 with the screen removed to tell me if they have had any problems with the screen removed any codes or worse performance and did you need to have the car retuned for the air flow and gas mixture problems?
Re: Need feed back on MAF screen removal (nevadacoin)
I think you'll get a lot of opinions from both sides of the fence on this one. I have an '01 with the screen removed and zero problems, but the intake path is a little different between an '01 and a '98.
I have a 2000 and I was holding back from taking off the screens for the longet time. 97-00 have smaller MAFs than 01-up so I think it is safe from syrgin. i did it 2 weeks ago, no codes and it feels faster. of course I installed an LS6 intake at the same time :D
Well Im dumb, dumb, dumb I removed the screen from the MAF Sensor
and forgot to hook up the electrical connector to it and started the car well guess what check engine. I turned off the engine and put the connector back on the MAF Sensor started the car still check engine then I remembered my Erasing DTC CODES which I got from this sight and ran the check list had a current and cleared it. I started the car again check engine gone!!! This is my question will that in any way affect the computer now from learning the new air flow, or once I reconnected the MAF and cleared the code will this reset the computer? or will the check engine keep coming
back after a while?
I think your car will be fine. Now that the error codes are gone, your computer will relearn your new settings (higher flow). The only thing that you have to watch out is surging but since you have a 98, I dont think you will have this problem.
Marshall...You worry to much  Your PCM will learn again..No harm done!
BTW..There is a MAF sensor that you can get which will give you a few more ponies from Breathless Performance . It's a relatively inexpensive item @ $29.00.. Check it out ...http://breathlessperformance.com/ :yesnod: Click on online catalog.....then 97-03 corvette.. then look under intake products:D
Re: Need feed back on MAF screen removal (vstella)
Hey Vince and c5Chris thanks for your feed back Vince your right I do worry to much but you know how I got screwed with this car so any little thing
happens and I start to freek. Anyway I think it's ok took her out and she ran fine I see someone posted I will have to wait around 100 miles for the computer to recalibrate A/F so only 86 more miles to reach the 100 will keep you posted
