Update on getting code P0161 and P0137 after installing long tube headers.
A week ago I posted that my Z06 was throwing code P0161 after I installed long tube headers. A few days later it threw an actual check engine light with a new code of: P0137 (low voltage on rear sensor)
On top of that I was getting a noticeable exhaust smell in the cabin when I would start the car cold, and a very smoky exhaust along with lots of popping sounds during driving.
After doing some research regarding that code I learned the rear sensors receive a constant voltage from the computer but then will vary the voltage returning to the computer depending on how rich or lean the car is running. The leaner the exhaust= lower voltage. After getting under the car I noticed an exhaust stain poking out just in front of where the catalytic converters join with the collectors. Turns out the slip joint between the two pipes wasn't sealed properly. (Probably my fault in installing them)
So I adjusted the joint and made sure to tighten the ring clamps down to insure a proper seal. No more exhaust smell, cleaner exhaust out the back, and no more codes so far.
If anyone installs long tube headers and gets these codes it could well be an air leak that's tricking your rear sensors. Hope this helps.
