Got a chance to get the car up in the air today and get some stuff done. It was a good day, I fixed an exhaust leak that I have been dealing with for awhile.. at the flanges between the xpipe and axleback. I also changed my diff fluid, which it obviously needed because it looked terrible. Anyway how much did you guys end up using on your car? I used close to two full quarts.
I did mine a few days ago and used approximately 1-3/4 quarts as well. Mine was probably OG, it looked dark and nasty. I'll probably do it again in the Fall because of that.
Here was mine. I may do it again in a few thousand miles. Only bad part about changing diff fluid is the 300 miles of easy driving :/
300 miles of easy driving??? Never heard of that. It is not like the diff was dry and you are working new fluid into the clutches. Fill it and give it hell!
When I changed my differential fluid a while back, I used the steps on CF member Toque's website, to include following GM's recommendation not to drive your car at wide open throttle for 300 miles because it may cause rear end noise/whine. According to the Service Manual "Important: Do not operate the vehicle at wide open throttle for a minimum of 480 km (300 miles) after refilling the differential with lubricant and friction modifier. Scoring of the ring and pinion gears may result, leading to differential noise." Also, I've read it's a good idea to find an empty parking lot and do lots of figure 8's to work the new oil into the differential clutch packs.

Reason: Quote the Service Manual.

That is going to be very difficult. I went on a short trip last night and knocked out about 100 of those miles.
Sorry...not buying it! As I said when draining the diff the gears and clutches do not go dry. I've never did a break in after a diff fluid change on any car I've owned and never had a problem.
