Default Radio head unit removal

I would like to rewire my radio for the Ipod/aux input. According to the service manual I have to take half the interior apart just to get the bezel off in front of the radio. It's a convertible. SM says to remove the console and the vertical top hatch support???????? Is this completely necessary? It is also a 6 speed if that makes a difference.

No, just remove the center console.

I just did this to my 01 convertible 6--speed.

You have to remove the waterfall (4 Torx screws).

Remove the active handling control (two plugs)

Remove the console, 4 10mm bolts (two under the active handling control and two under the small covers at the back of the console. Unplug the gas door and power plug connectors.

Remove the the radio-HVAC trim, (3 Torx screws). One screw next to the cigarette lighter, one behind the ashtray, one behind the temp sensor cover (next to the ignition switch).

I just added the iSimple Ipod interface. It works great! Tuck the extra wiring behind the HVAC control where there is more room as it's tight behind the radio. I put the iSimple interface box under the HVAC control on top of the airbag module with a small piece of velcro. I ran the cable into the center console.

Tttiger, Thanks, sounds easy enough, but what is the waterfall?

The waterfall is the body colored piece between the seats with the Corvette logo on it. You said you have a convertible? They all have the waterfall. Coupes don't have them.

Also, when you remove the radio HVAC trim, you don't need to to remove the shift ****. Just unclip the boot from the trim piece and leave it there. The trim piece will come off leaving the boot, shift lever and **** in place.

Technically, there are 3 plugs under the console: the one for the active handling button, the one for the passenger airbag light, and the one for the 12V power port. There's also the cigarette lighter plug behind the bezel.

Well, on a C5 there are actually 4. Active handling/suspension control, airbag light, fuel door and power plug.

OK Guys, I think I have what I need. I'm intelligent enough to see that if there are wires going to a switch or connector they may need to be disconnected. My original question was what trim pieces needed to be removed.
