Default Steering wheel LEDs

I recently switched my steering wheel to a C6 with Bluetooth and radio controls. I had already changed the lights in my DIC and door switches to red LEDs. The lighting in the steering wheel controls are LEDs but not red I definitely doesn't match. I'm ready to make that change. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. I'll try to have some pics up soon.

off topic but did you get the airbag to function properly?... I'd like to do this mod somewhere down the line if the airbag can still function as intended... on the leds, I would assume you could take the switches apart and replace the leds with red ones just the same as many people have done on the c5 radio/hvac/dic/door switches

I haven't tried yet on the airbag. My idea is just to cut both plugs, which I've already done and connect the old wires to the new ones and use the correct resistor across them. I'm almost positive that turn off the airbag light. Not 100% on whether or not it'll function properly. I have no reason to believe it wouldn't

Back to the LEDs. The ones inside the radio and AC controls are regular LEDs which I've already done. Inside the steering wheel controls are SMD LEDs (surface mount) which means they are soldered to the surface of the circuit board. Slightly different, not a huge deal. I was wondering if anybody had info on size or where to get them at a good price. But I would love to be the first on the forum to do something so maybe I will be

this thread might be helpful if you haven't seen it already as far as what leds to use and where to source them, https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...od-thread.html

A Google search for SMD footprint should get you info on the different footprints so you can match up to a footprint. Hopefully, it's a simple footprint using the number code like 1206 for example.

A place like Digikey should have them. I doubt they're the cheapest, but they will have them for a very reasonable price along with all the manufacturer info being available and they will quickly ship them to you.

It sounds like a cool project. Hope you get it done.

You might also try posting in the C6 section since it is a C6 steering wheel. Maybe the C6 guys have changed the lights.

Ummm... I am not an expert in airbag technology, but I understand that the C5 uses an older single stage process while the C6 uses a two stage process... I think that is reason to believe that it might not work...

In the even of a crash voltage is applied to the airbag causing it to deploy. C5 is a single stage, basically high speed only. C6 is dual stage high speed and low speed. Maybe just hook up the high speed. Idk. But I don't see it not functioning at all.

I'm already driving it with a non- functioning airbag now. So I guess worst case scenario is I continue doing what I'm already doing.
