Default Water pump upgrade

I am replacing the water pump on my ls1. I heard the ls3 is a bolt on upgrade. Anyone have any information on this? I am aware I need to buy a new thermostat and housing to get this to work.

When I look up part numbers for the ls1 the ls2 and ls3 I get all different part numbers. I like the ls3 pulley setup better. Just want to make sure I get the correct parts before I tear it all down

Saturday, I just bought a water pump for my 01 MN6. LS1
no modifications..........part number at O'reilly's is CP5081 new with lifetime warranty
I used my old t stat. from the original pump. 83,000 miles
Used the O ring that came with the pump. had pressure against the housing like the old one. 160
T stat opens like it always did.

What is the difference in them? When I did my build last year I think I got an Old style one (re-man). The T'stat is separate from the water neck and the back is bolted on. The one I took off had the T'stat built into the neck. The back cover was a big plug.

The re-man one was Cardon 58-563
Thanks.

I recently had the original pump replaced on my 98 with one purchased from Rock Auto that looks exactly the same as the original. Also put a new T-stat in and used the original T-stat neck. Here's a pic of the one I picked up from Rock Auto

^I wonder if it is a re-manufactured one or if they are being produced again.

Thanks 8VETTE7 I got a remanufactured old one, I think. It was easier to find a 160 deg thermostat for being that it was separate from the neck. According to the links, the old one may have been the '04 style.

You guys do know they sell brand new water pumps?

I swapped out my pump for a brand new Delco from summit.

Brand new.

unless you're going electric, the pump is not considered an upgrade.

Remanufactured are perfectly fine and are sometimes an option, but if you have a worry then let a pro do the job for you.
