Fuel Gauge
but the gas gauge only goes to half full and very slowly. Any answers to correct.

My assumption from you post is that your fuel gauge goes from “E” to “1/2”? If this correct, than you need to focus on the right/passenger side fuel tank sending unit as the right/passenger side fuel tank sending is responsible to move the fuel gauge needle from “1/2” to “FULL”.
Recommend the following actions;
Post up any and all codes logged in the DIC to this thread, upon recording (writing down all the codes) clear all codes in the DIC.
Perform a detailed visual inspection on the right/passenger side fuel tank sending unit electrical plug/wiring to ensure that there are no issues, (IE is the sender electrical plug fully seated and locked in the sender???
As you have no reference to the model year car you have, it is very important to post up the year of your car as there are variances to the C5 Model years on how the fuel level indication system is integrated in to the car…Year of your car?
If after you perform a detailed visual inspection of the right/passenger side fuel tank sending unit electrical plug/wiring and NO issues were found, proceed as follows;
Remove the right/passenger side fuel tank sending unit electrical plug and check the sensor to see if it is actually reporting fuel levels to the PCM using a Ohm meter
.
Check out my fuel table post in this thread for troubleshooting a "99 Vette that has detailed instructions, POST #18

Post up what you find and/or readings for further troubleshooting.

The 1997 right/passenger side fuel tank requires a “3 wire capable” fuel level sensor for the indication to work correctly in the 1997 model year car.
Can you please confirm if your Chevy Tech installed the following part number fuel level sensor?
Fuel Pump and Level Sensor Module with Seal and Bolts
AC Delco Part Number: MU1216
Product Notes:
Fuel Pump and Sender Assembly
All; IMPROVED SENSOR CARD
Per Vehicle: 1; Years: 1997-1999

In the below link , I was working with A CF member sorting out his 1997 and I posted photos/schematics showing the variances between the 1997 and 1999 model year cars which at the end of the day the wrong part number sender was installed in the right/passenger side fuel tank of his car, which caused his issue….

Way forward>
Q1) Post up your DIC codes to this thread.?
Q2) As the 1997 requires the “3rd wire” for the fuel gauge to work correctly, Verify the part number and manufacture (OEM?) of both left/right fuel level sensors that were installed by your Chevy Tech and post to this thread.?
Q3) Post up the results of the wire/connector detailed visual inspections, are there any “findings/discrepancies”?
Upon posting up your answers to the above questions with no “findings/discrepancies”, we can go to the next level of troubleshoot by way of performing continuity/Ohm checks using a digital multi-meter (DMM).
