I only have 100 miles on my new '02 Coupe. Hate the CAGS so bought an eliminator from LAPD. I installed it and went for a drive. It doesn't work. Shift light comes on (like it should) and still blocks me from shifting into fourth.
Now I hope I got the right harness. If I accidentally tapped into another harness I would know right? and I think I read here that if the resistor in the eliminator was bad I would get some kinda error in the DIC?
Everything seems to run fine so I have to assume I am on the right connector...
any ideas out there? My first mod and a faillure.... :nonod:
Where was the connector located that you tapped into?
Rear-Driver side, up above the sways up against the tranny. There are 2 connectors there, a white/blue one and a black one. I tapped into the white/blue since it was the same size and the connectors were compatible.
If your kit works like mine you will still get the 1-4 Shift indication but second and third will not be locked out and you can use any gear you want whenever you want. I think this was explained in the instructions. You probably got the right solenoid since the reverse lock-out solenoid is much harder to get at. :seeya

Well I am locked out so I have a problem... if i did use the wrong solenoid, woudl I get an error message?
where is the reverse lock-out solenoid for reference?
The reverse lockout solenoid prevents you from putting the car in reverse while its in forward motion. Thus you don't have to worry when shifting from 4th to 5th that you accidentally get reverse. I wouldn't recommend that you test this right now.
There's no way the CAGS could function if you have the right wires. Thus you've probably got the wrong set of wires that you've disconnected. Did your CAGS bypass come with some good pictures to show you the right ones? My memory isn't good enough to tell you exactly which wires on my car I disconnected. I do remember there were 3 different sets that led to the transmission. If I remember right, the wires are on the driver side of the transmission. Perhaps someone else will have pictures to share.
Exactly how did you install the cags eliminator kit?
After I jacked the rear end, I looked on the driver side for a white/blue conenctor like the instructions said. I unplugged it. Pluggeg the black eliminator piece (the one with the resistor) to the wire harness side (the only one that would fit) and connected the white/blue cap to the tranny side.... seems like a simple install
if i had the wrong harness, wouldn't I have noticed other problems?

Re: CAGS Eliminator Doesn't work??? (carrerarod)
This is the site I went to, when I was looking for a good description of where the CAGS connector is http://www.ls1.com/link_cags.html . Hopefully, this will give you a good indication of whether you have the right one or not. This is the only mod I've done so far, and it's a vital one. Good luck!
Sounds like you did everything right. Im not sure what went wrong, how could the solenoid be getting power? Maybe the car is mad, because it knows you like porshes :yesnod: Just kidding :D Are, you sure it wont let you shift into 2nd when the light is on?(I know thats a stupid question, but ive run out of advice :) )

I guess if it was the wrong connector an error code would be written correct? error 84 if my research was accurate? i wonder if the resistor is bad? might take a multimeter to it.
i looked at a few pictures and am trying to find a point of reference for the solenoid. Did the location and/or color of the connector change in '02? Some pictures I have seen have an orange sticker on the tranny for the fluid type....think i might go under the car again today.
LOL, yes the Porsche feels neglected. Actually drove it for the first time since I got the vette and it sure didn't feel right. Gonna put her for sale today...
I have read other post on here that some resistors could be bad and others saying that the resistor had some how come lose in the plug becasue they are only hot glued in.

The only reason the resistor is needed is to fake the computer out to think the solenoid is still connected when it really isn't. If the resistor isn't right, the computer will throw a code. When you've plugged in the resistor, you've disconnected the wires that power the solenoid, so it should not have any power what so ever. Thus if you've got the right wires disconnected, there's no way the solenoid is going to work. You've got the wrong wires disconnected. You should go back under the car and double check the wires you've disconnected.

I would like to volunteer for the moron of the year award please! Went back under and I did indeed have the wrong connector. One of the links sent to me earlier showed an orange dextron sticker near the solenoid so I used that for reference.
Everything works great now.... :)
Sorry for disturbing the group with my stupidity.... :(
Crazy porshe people :jester  Im sure if I had seen two that I could have used, I would have picked the wrong one, good thing I only found one harness :yesnod:
Thanks! Just feel pretty stupid grabbing the wrong connector....Can't believe I did that. I guess I mis-interpreted all the instructions that say to the "rear". the connector seems to be almost in the center of the car. I think for others to not make the mistake I did is look for the bright orange dextron sticker. the solenoid is right above it.
