I have a 2001 Coupe with the dreaded sticking clutch pedal at the floorboard. It only happens when I'm road racing or drag racing, but it really has become a problem on the track. I am considering changing the clutch master and hydralic line to a Z06 setup in hopes to fix the problem. Does anyone know if the Z06 setup is different fron the regular C5 master and line? or will it be a waste of time. I'm having 3:73s installed next week, so the entire drivetrain will be apart..I figured it would be a great time to fix the sticking pedal syndrome as well. Thanks for your information and input !!!
I have the Z06 slave, and it still sticks from time to time. The zo6 slave is less restictive than the C5 one.. I would swap, its a good mod. Look at your fluid, what color is it. Mine was dark and when I changed it, it seemed to make a difference.
The fluid is dark, I only have 15,000 miles on the car. I am planning on flushing and changing the fluid as a minimum. I am also thinking about the Z06 slave and line if it is a different and improved part over what they put in regular C5s in 2001. Thanks for you input !!
I change the fluid in the reservoir once a week and again a day or two after a session at the drags. The whole clutch hydraulics system contains about 16 oz, of which 3 oz are in the reservoir. This routine has kept my fluid completely clear and my clutch pedal remains normal at 6700 miles after 58 passes at the drags...and counting.
I've followed the routine on this car since delivery, having learned the sad lesson on my 01 that cooked clutch fluid contributes to pedal issues, never mind GM claims to the contrary.
I'm really focused on Not having my pedal stick to the floor.
Hard launches produce heat. Heat effects the fluid and causes it to discolor and breakdown.
One other data point. This summer on vacation I drove the car 2400 miles in 8 days. About 800 of those miles were on two-lane roads where I did hundreds of WOT runs in passing situations 50-100 with hard shifts. Of interest, through all that hard running, the clutch fluid remained perfectly clear. But there were no launches or burnouts.
So on I go...changing the reservoir fluid every week, enjoying a normal clutch pedal, and hoping it continues.
