I might be buying a used 388 all bore engine from someone and would like to know how long would swaping the two engines take from a competent shop?
This is without tunning just instal btw. Thanx guys. :chevy
JUST a motor swap... I think the book calls for 23 shop hours...
We can do it in a 1 1/2 to 2 days... if we leave Chad alone and not pull him off the car to do something else. So, I'd lean towards 16-18 hours for a technician taking his time and doing things right. Also, we do NOT tamper with the A/C. We unbolt the compressor from the block and wire tie it out of the way after the motor has been manuvered down out of the engine bay. This saves time from evacuating the AC system of freon and then putting it back in... as well as saving from potential leaks down the road. Hope this helps :)
Nice rims by the way ;)

I had my old motor out the top in 3 hours. that was from start to finish to include evac'ing the a/c, draining all fluids, removing the hood/radiatior/condenser, dropping the clutch, moving the rack and AH/TC module and brackets out of the way, then pulling motor out, of course. this was with 2 of us doing it and keeping all bolts, parts and fasteners in some assemblence of order. i am installing the new motor tomorrow. we expect the install to take most of the day. i think book calls for 23hrs with M6 to R&R motor?? This time can be easily beat by a competent shop.
You have to figure in the time for tuning, and checking everything after the motor has been run a while. I personally like to check valve lash, etc. after running the car to temp a few times. The physical labor, the nuts-and-bolts part is not the whole battle...getting every bit of power out of it after it's in is the hard part :yesnod:
