Twice now I've been driving my 2003 Z06 and had an issue were I lose power steering. The second time this happened I just got it in 1st and noticed my steering went out again. I was pulling off into a street to shut the car off and noticed my coolant temps were high also. I pulled over and steering came back and coolant temps went down FAST. I feel like my belt locked up. What could cause this? Power steering is full, coolant is full. It said service vehicle soon and then went away once the steering came back and coolant temps went down
Just a thought,,
might check all your pulleys, water pump, alt, belt tensioners, power steering, etc to be sure one of them is not locked or getting ready to lock up ??

Sounds like your steering rack is going away. Had this happen to my 03 back in 04. PS was good until the system got hot and then at 90+ mph it would start cutting out and back in going around the carousel turn at the Glen. Steering would get very hard requiring a lot of force to hold the car in the right turn and then suddenly it didn't require a lot of force so car was jerking back and forth as I fought the changes in effort.
Sounds like time and miles have caught up with your rack. Might be a good idea to look at the pump as well.
If your water pump was locking up you would see damage on the belt and smell burning rubber and probably hear the belt screeching as it tried to turn the pump pulley.

That's what's weird also, No belt squeak. The car lost steering then and the service vehicle came up on the display. Then the coolant temps went high. Then everything was normal after that. Drove the car home 20 minutes without a single problem.
