Default Oil Leak

Ok so my last thread I said how I thought my procharger was leaking at high boost and shooting oil al over the engine bay. I got a new procharger and installed it today. Once I started it I can see clean engine oil shooting all over. This oil was easily recognizeable as engine oil not procharger oil. So I'm not sure if this is new and my other procharge wasn't leaking or if the engine oil leak just got worse and that's why the oil was so easily identified as engine oil.

Last time I ran the car it would only shoot oil around at high boost. This time it did it right away and it was spraying everywhere. I took the procharger off and started the engine and it looks like the oil is coming from the harmonic balancer area and it's just spraying all over.

Any ideas?

thanks

possibly blew the front seal out from excessive crankcase pressure due to a lack of venting

Yeah someone mentioned that last time and everything I'm googling is saying that or the crankshaft seal. I guess it time to pull the front of the engine apart. God I hate doing that. I did it last year when I changed my cam. Could the oil have been slowly leaking and then just got worse causing it to spray everywhere?

Would this leak cause smoke to come out of vented catch can? It never use to do that till this problem started.

so you have had the front cover off already, did you use a tool to center it or did you use the balancer?... there is a chance it could have had a slow leak the whole time but blowing the seal out points to excessive crankcase pressure with nowhere to go and now that it blew out it's going to leak until you fix it, of course this is assuming the crank seal is the source of the leak... the excessive pressure can also cause smoke to come out of your catch can but the crank seal leak will not cause that... sounds like you need to change your catch can setup to prevent this from happening again in the future

Ok thanks. No I didn't use the tool to center it. I will this time. I already have the car up on jacks tires off and draining fluid. Hopefully I can get this done between tomorrow and nights after I get home from work. I really have to figure out this catch can think. I had it for a year with a basic catch can and no issues.

there are different ways to set it up depending on if you just want it venting to atmosphere or if you still want a vacuum pulled on the system but whichever way you choose to do it most guys with blowers will use at least -10an hoses (sometimes larger) running to their can and that should provide enough ventilation... if you are using small oem size lines that could cause a builup of pressure in the crankcase since they can't adequately vent the pressures that are building up under boost... if you have it hooked up with a vacuum being pulled you will also need a check valve to keep boost from blowing out through your can instead of going in the motor where it should be

So I got the steering rack out and went to take the crank bolt out and the crank bolt was so loose I was able to take it out by hand. Since I'm the one who put it in could I have not made it right enough and that's why it came loose and I was shooting oil all over the place?

Seems strange that it would come loose if you followed the directions on installing it

I'm not sure simple vent to atmosphere provides enough venting. So you have an LS6 valley pan and early LS1 valve covers?

Im just realizing that my mechanic when I first got the procharger installed keyed the crank. I do not remember putting the key in when I changed the camshaft and I don't see one in there now. I'll double check when I get the balancer off tomorrow. If I lost the key I'll have to make another one. Can this be the reason the bolt became loose?
