Anyone know who can rebuild our 1997 alternator?
A while back we replaced the 1997's alternator with a reman from a parts store and unknowingly returned the 1997 oem alternator for core. We've dealt with it not turning on without seeing rpm's come up over 2500 or so due to it have the incorrect regulator.
Ive recently purchased a 1997 oem alternator from a reseller. It works but only puts out 9-11 volts. So it's in need of a rebuild I assume. I'm Leary of sending it to a local shop and having them rebuild it without having knowledge on the specifics of th 1997's goofy alternator.
Is there anyone who specializes or knows a lot about these alternator's that you guys would suggest I send it to for rebuild? Or is it something I can DIY as I'm pretty handy.

Back In The Day, we all rebuilt our alternators. They're so cheap now that this is a lot art.
But, realistically, I doubt they've changed all that much.
There's not much to wear out in an alternator. Open yours up. You'll find a big coil, which will last roughly as long as the sun. Bearings, which rarely go bad and squeal like a banshee when they do. A regulator, which is a plug & play piece. A stator, which picks up the juice.
It's most likely the regulator that needs replaced.
